STEPS TO BREEDING MY DOG IN KlM-GNA
The KlM-GNA breeding program follows the Breeding Regulations of Verband fur Kleine Munsterlander e.V. This program is based on performance testing, hip and ureter examination, and coat and conformation evaluation. You must be a member of KlM-GNA and your dog must have a pedigree recognized by the Verband fur Kleine Munsterlander e.V. Both male and female dogs must have proved versatile proficiency in field, water, and forest both before and after the shot, including proof of laut on small furred game, in order to qualify for breeding in this program. They must adhere to the FCI Standard for the Kleine Munsterlander, including coat and structure, as judged in a Club Breed Show by a certified KlM Breed Show Judge. Their hips must be x-rayed and ureters ultrasounded according to club specifications. These health tests must be sent to Germany where they are graded and certified to be breeding quality or not. Additionally, breeders of females who wish to produce litters must apply for an International Kennel License and must be a hunter with a valid hunting license, and have trained and handled a KlM in the Breed Tests of the JGHV and the Breed Show. The intent of this program is to provide the foot hunter with a reliable and healthy dog having an even temperament capable of fulfilling versatile hunting requirements and of being a stable family companion.
If you anticipate that you may wish to breed your dog in the future familiarize yourself with the following information while your dog is still a pup:
- Review the Breeding Regulations of the Verband fur Kleine Munsterlander e.V. available under Puppies/Breeding at www.klm-gna.org. Please contact your breeder or the Breed Warden with any questions.
- If you have a male or female your dog must fulfill Breeding Regulation
#5. Breeding requirements.
a. Contact the KlM-GNA Director of JGHV Testing while your dog is still a
young pup to discuss a testing schedule for your pup, including a Breed
Show.
b. Contact the Breed Warden for assistance in acquiring the required hip x-ray and ureter ultrasound testing instructions and information on how and where to send the tests in Germany. Hip tests are done after your pup reaches its first birthday and ureters can be done earlier.
c. Submit all completed evaluation documents to the Breed Warden. These
include JGHV breed qualifying test results (usually VJP and HZP),
including proof of laut, Breed Show Judge’s Report, HD (hip) and Ureter
evaluation reports from Germany, and the Blood Form. - If you want to breed a female and produce litters you must apply for a Kennel License by submitting a Kennel Registration and Kennel Inspection form (after inspection by the Breed Warden). See Breeding Regulation #15, Kennel name and kennel registration. Kennel Registration and Kennel License forms are available on the website www.klm-gna.org under Breeding/Breeding Forms
a. For detailed information on the requirements of the Kennel (Breeding
Facility) refer to the article, “Explanation of Kennel (Breeding Facility)
Inspection Form.”
b. After receiving a Kennel License and at least 30 days prior to breeding
you must confer with the Breed Warden about your planned breeding or
request assistance in selection of a mate. If you are unsure of a mate it is
better to confer with the Breed Warden much earlier. The final choice of
a mate is made by the Breeder.
d. Contact the owner of the selected stud dog to agree on the stud fee.
e. Contact the Webmaster to place an ad on the KlM-GNA website.
f. Within 5 days of the breeding the stud dog owner requests the Mating Certificate from the Breed Warden and pays the certificate fee to KlM-GNA.
g. To register the litter, follow Appendix 6 of the Breeding Regulations. This must be done within three weeks after the birth. The Breed Warden will assist you.
h. A packet will be received from Germany which will include Stammtafels (pedigrees), microchips, and the Welpenerfassungsbogen (Puppy Record Sheet). After 7 weeks of age the microchips must be inserted in the pups by the Breed Warden or an agent of the Breed Warden(the “agent” may be your vet). Additionally after 7 weeks of age the pups must be examined by the Breed Warden or an agent of the Breed Warden. This is the choice of the Breed Warden. The Litter Inspection Form must be completed during the examination. This form is found on the website under Breeding/Breeding Forms. A copy of the report must be sent to the Breed Warden if an agent is used. Pups may not leave the breeder prior to 8 weeks of age. Each pup must be sent home with its stammtafel. The Puppy Record Sheet, also provided by KlM-D, must be sent to the Breed Warden within two weeks of the pups going to their owners. The Breed Warden will forward this to Germany.
As you can see, breeding as a member of KlM-GNA and the Verband fur Kleine Munsterlander e.V. is demanding and structured. You will have the support of your breeder, the KlM-GNA Breed Warden, the Director of Testing, and fellow members, better known as your KlM family. The satisfaction comes when your female or stud dog produces their first litter, you have the opportunity of witnessing new owners experiencing their first KlM, and you can proudly say the pups are the result of more than a century of quality breeding of which you are a part!
