Rained out at PRGC? Not a chance!!

The 2017 Pineridge Grouse Camp training weekend was a great success! Despite the weather, 8 KlM owners and 10 KlM attended. During the heaviest rains, the group came together in the lodge to watch VDD-JGHV HZP testing and training videos, discussed thoughts and answered questions.

Training included field work, water work, into to birds and launchers, intro to water and ducks, tracking dragged game, intro to woods, etc.
Some went into the woods and flushed 20 grouse in short order (several family groups), plus a number of woodcock.

Looks very positive for the 2017 Fall Conference to be held at PRGC this October!!

August Training Day at Krieger’s Ridge

Training Day, August 2015

On Saturday, August 8th, members of KlM-GNA and guests gathered at Krieger’s Ridge Kennels for a pleasant and productive Training Day. Though the weather forecast pointed to hot and humid weather, handlers and their dogs were treated to excellent training conditions throughout the entire day under overcast skies, a pleasant breeze and very agreeable temperatures.

Half the group focused on general field work in anticipation of the upcoming hunting season, while the other group carried out training exercises required for the two primary JGHV (German Versatile Hunting Dog Association) Fall tests, the HZP (Fall Breed Test) and the VGP (Association Utility Test). Throughout the day, the diverse group of mostly KlM owners utilized the full expanse of Barb Krieger’s beautiful 80-acre property, located about 45 miles north of Milwaukee. While one group worked in one of the field areas on feathered game, the other group laid blood tracks in the forest and practiced game drags in other areas of the property.

After a lunch mixed with lots of dog talk and KlM-GNA merchandise sales, those handlers still remaining continued their training in the forest and field, before finishing the day with water work in the dense cover of the small ponds ideally suited for short blind retrieves. At the end of the day, each dog and handler team was able to successfully complete nearly all of their training objectives, whether in the field, forest or water.

Training Days at Krieger’s Ridge

Bobbe Carney and Dick Jensen preparing for field work

Bobbe Carney and Dick Jensen preparing for field work

On August 2-3 KlM-GNA members and friends gathered for a weekend of versatile dog training on the premises of Krieger Ridge Kennel, located north of Milwaukee on 80 acres of Wisconsin farmland.  The weekend offered a variety of training activities for beginners and experienced handlers alike.  Under the guiding eye of Dick Jensen, an experienced hunter and trainer with years of experience in the German testing system, KlM owners had an opportunity to work on the whole range of abilities characteristic of the Kleine Münsterländer:  from field work on feathered game, to land retrieves on rabbits and ducks, to retrieving work in the ponds on Barb Krieger’s beautiful, well-kept property.  Those training their KlM to perform an independent duck search travelled 20 minutes to Dundee Pond, where dogs could display their willingness to swim, persistence and strength of character in tracking down elusive and well-hidden water fowl. All in all, the weekend was a successful gathering of Kleine Munsterlander and their owners, including first-rate training opportunities but also time to meet new people and chat about dogs, training, the direction of the new club and the upcoming hunting season.
